Becoming a parent is a full-body, full-budget experience. The nappies, the clothes, the never-ending snack requests… it adds up fast. But here’s the good news: there are parental leave discounts and freebies out there designed to make life a little easier...you just need to know where to look.
Here's a list of useful money-saving perks available to new and expecting parents. Think of this as your go-to guide for spending smart (not more) during parental leave.

1. BABY CLUBS THAT ACTUALLY GIVE YOU SOMETHING BACK
A couple of big retailers offer genuinely useful baby clubs that help you save on the things you’ll be buying anyway:
John Lewis Perks for Parents: Free 1:1 nursery advice, exclusive offers and member-only events that are actually helpful, especially if you’re figuring out what you really need.
Boots Parenting Club: Extra Advantage Card points on nappies, formula, wipes and baby essentials.
Cubbi Tip: Sign up during pregnancy. Your points and perks start building before baby arrives, which helps massively when that Statutory Parental Leave Pay kicks in!
2. NHS EXEMPTIONS (DON’T SKIP THIS ONE)
If you’re pregnant or your baby is under one, you’re entitled to:
Free prescriptions
Free NHS dental care
This is one of the most underrated savings. Pregnancy can really impact your health and your teeth, so those savings on £10 prescriptions and £20+ dental check-ups really add up.
Cubbi Tip: If your exemption certificate hasn’t arrived yet, still ask for a receipt — you can claim the refund later.
3. COUNCIL SUPPORT & FAMILY HUBS
Local councils often offer support that parents don’t know exists, including:
Baby starter packs
Free baby first aid courses
Sensory play and stay-and-play sessions
Healthy Start vouchers (towards fruit, veg, milk and formula)
Cubbi Tip: Their Facebook pages are usually more up to date than the website on where to go and what they offer.
4. EMPLOYER BENEFITS (HIDDEN IN THE SMALL PRINT)
Even workplaces without enhanced maternity pay often have additional parental perks — they’re just rarely communicated well. These can include:
Cashback or reimbursements through corporate health plans
Childcare partnership vouchers or subsidies
Shared parental leave policies that could extend total leave time
Cubbi Tip: Email HR and ask to see the full benefits handbook — not just the parental leave policy.
5. CUBBI (THE ONE PARENTS WISH THEY KNEW ABOUT SOONER)
Cubbi is the UK’s first discount platform designed specifically for new and expecting parents — giving you access to exclusive savings on the brands you’re already buying during pregnancy, newborn life and beyond. All you have to do is sign up, upload evidence that you're a new parent (check out the details on what we need here) and then you're verified to shop exclusive discounts with 100s of brands!
Your parental leave budget doesn’t have to stretch thinner than it already feels. A few smart sign-ups and knowing where to look can make a real difference — and help you keep enjoying the nice things too!
